Decomposition rates game
This active, outdoor game challenges learners to sort everyday waste items by how long they take to decompose, encouraging prediction, discussion and problem-solving.
By placing objects along a measured line, pupils practise numeracy skills while developing an understanding of decomposition timescales and the environmental impact of different materials. The activity provides an accessible starting point for conversations about waste, sustainability and the long-term effects of single-use plastics.
