The Nature Park Map
The Nature Park Map is an easy to use digital GIS tool you can use to view all the Nature Park data in one place
Use the Nature Park Map alongside your learners to explore all the data collected on your site and across the country. This can help your learners identify opportunities and make decisions about the best changes you can make to your site. It can also support your curriculum teaching – providing real world data for learners to work with in your lessons.
To understand the features of the map, please see our guide - A technical guide to the National Education Nature Park map
How can the Map support your Nature Park journey?
- Look at what has been achieved by similar settings to get inspired!
- Explore the Map alongside the Ideas for Improvement activity to inform decisions about changes to your site
- Complete the Shade mapping activity on your site. Then look at the data in the Map alongside the Find that plant activity to help you choose suitable plants for your site
- Use the sketch and measuring tools alongside the Life-Size planning activity to help learners plan where their improvements could be placed, and visualise what their site could look like
- Use the Map alongside the Temperatures in school grounds resource to identify where green or blue enhancements could have most impact on your site
- Use the sketch tool as a practice environment for Habitat mapping
- Use the Map to help you Share your findings
Reflection and green skills
Think about what else you might use the Map for with your learners. For example, how it might help them develop their green skills. The Green Careers and Geography page has several videos where you can see tools very similar to the Map being used by those speaking about thier jobs.
Perhaps you could set your learners the following task:
Imagine they are in a particular job role. Ask them to think about how they would use the Map in that role and what they would need for it.
Example job roles could be:
- environmental surveyor
- land consultant
- communications lead for an environmental organisation
